If there is one thing I am learning here in Mongolia, it’s how much we take things for granted.  I lived in the same city for 14 years, and I’ve forgotten how much easier life is when you know everything.

I have finally moved into my new place, and realize that I don’t know where to buy laundry detergent, and towels, and a coffee machine.  I know where to do most of my grocery shopping, but it’s far away and requires waiting until the weekend.

On the other hand, there is a certain excitement to learning something new.  It’s a lot to learn, but it’s the novelty can be fun.  For a while anyway!

So I expect to get ripped off a lot in the next few weeks, at least until I can learn the language and argue back (well, maybe not with the taxi cab drivers).  I also expect a lot of frustration and annoyance  (as has already been experienced with my bank).  These are the things, I think, that teach us patience and expand our perspective.  They also make us realize how good we can often have it.

PS – I am also blogging at Land of Blue Skies.

Off to Mongolia? Wow where have I been?!?!? Congrats on the big move, I will be sure to keep up with you more. Life got crazy the last month or so, I got engaged and got really sick.

I think this experience is going to just ad so much more depth to the perspective that you view the world. For however long you spend there, you will be that more prepared to come back to the states and live life that much more simpler. Living the simple life, I feel, is one key to living a happy life. Take the good with the bad while you are there and I know you will be taking it all in. Im excited to follow your experiences.

Thank you for the reminder, I take a lot for granted and I should stop.
